Animal Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for animals is not an alternative but an essential adjunct to veterinary medicine. The purpose of physiotherapy is to restore and maintain mobility, function and performance. All types of animals can benefit from physiotherapy, pleasure riding horses to competition horses, or working dogs to pets.

If your animal has had a change in behaviour or performance, an injury or surgery, is stiff when moving around, they may benefit from a physiotherapy assessment and treatment.

Chartered physiotherapists work with veterinary approval to ensure adequate protection of the animal and comply with the Royal Veterinary Surgeons Act. Permission from your veterinary surgeon is gained prior to your first appointment.

What to expect

For your first appointment allow 1 hour. During this time the physiotherapist will:
• Take a detailed history
• Assess the animals conformation and movement
• Palpate (feel) all over the animal for abnormalities and pain
• Identify appropriate treatment
• Perform treatment

Physiotherapy treatment may include
• Manipulation and mobilisation to joints and soft tissues
• Electrotherapy such as ultrasound, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, TENS and electromagnetic therapy
• Exercise regimes and rehabilitation

Why see a veterinary physiotherapist?
• Specialised expertise

Or simply want the best for and out of your animal!
